MOUNT ST. Helens
On March 20th, 1980, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Mt. St. Helens in Washington State, and it started venting steam. On may 18th of the same year, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake blew open the mountain, releasing all of the magma inside and creating a pyroclastic flow that wiped out people and towns. The magma killed 12 million fish and much more wild life. Luckily, only 57 people died from this terrible disaster. After the explosion, the north side of the mountain was decreased in height by 1,300 feet, and left a mile long crater.
