MOUNT VESUVIUS
Vesuvius erupted in southern Italy in 79 AD during the Roman Empire.
It destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This volcano fell under the category of ash volcanoes, or a stratovolcano, and when it erupted, a layer of ash fell atop the cities. The ash suffocated any people in the cities, and within 25 hours of the eruption, both cities were wiped out. Anyone in the cities has their bodies perfectly molded within the ash such as the one to the right. |
